Propiedades mecánicas de los agregados ante variaciones climáticas: Reporte de caso en Bucaramanga

Abstract

El concreto como material compuesto, presenta un comportamiento mecánico que depende en gran parte de la calidad de cada uno de los materiales de que se compone. En este trabajo se intentó establecer una correlación entre las variaciones mecánicas de los agregados y el caudal de los ríos en donde se localizaban las canteras. Por conveniencia fueron seleccionadas las cuencas de Suratá y Pescadero, del Departamento de Santander. Durante un periodo de cinco meses se tomaron muestras de estas canteras, y se analizaron con las normas establecidas por el Instituto Colombiano de Normas Técnicas y por las Normas del Instituto Nacional de Vías, observándose que la cantera de Suratá cumplió en un 86% de los ensayos, mientras que la cantera de Pescadero lo hizo en un 71.3% de los ensayos. Además, se concluyó que como no se observó relación directa entre el caudal de los Ríos Pescadero y Suratá y las variaciones mecánicas de los agregados, de lo cual se concluye que los cambios en las propiedades mecánicas pueden deberse al proceso de selección y ajuste del material con fines comerciales.

Abstract: Concrete, as a composite material, presents a mechanical behavior that depends on the quality of each of the materials that are used in the mixing process. This research focused in the correlation of aggregates´s mechanical properties and the river where these aggregates were obtained. Surata and Pescadero basins, located at Santander, were chosen to be analized. The information regarding aggregates characterization according with the standards established by the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards Norms and National Roads Norms was collected during a period of five months. The results shown that samples of Suratá basin are reliable at 86% while Pescadero only in a 71.3%. Even though these variations occurred, there were not possible to conclude that there were a relationship between river flow and mechanical variations of the aggregates; thus is inferred that changes in mechanical properties may be due to the selection and adjustment of the material for commercial purposes.
